Jayden Payne is a current Aldine Senior High School student. During the week of the flooding, Payne saved the lives of a mother and child. He was standing in front of the ALDI Grocery Store by Chick-fil-A when the incident occurred. When he looked at their SUV swerve into the ditch, he reacted immediately.
“I hurried up, threw my jacket, I threw my shirt off. I ran over there across the front of all the cars. I didn’t care if all the cars stopped or not because I was more worried about their safety than my safety.” Payne said.
When Jayden Payne got there he saw the woman open her car door and stick her head out of the water. He jumped in the water to pull her out, and when he did that she pulled her baby out at the same time. The current was too strong for him and that’s when two other men helped him bring the mother and child to safety.
Jayden Payne stayed with the family until they started to calm down. The news started to spread and he was posted on various different outlets. It got to the point that local news requested an interview with him about the incident.
Payne will be recognized as a true hero because he risked his life to save others.
